| BHS riders embark on 120-mile journey to mark diamond jubilee - 10 July 2007 |
|
A six-strong team of female riders has embarked on a 120-mile ride to the Royal Welsh Show to mark the Diamond Jubilee of the British Horse Society.
Having set out on Saturday morning, the team are set to arrive at Pembrokeshire to coincide with the official opening of the Pembrokeshire tower on July 23rd bearing a scroll to celebrate their historic journey.
En route the team, who are all members of the South West Wales Committee, have been blessed by the Dean of St Davids, The Very Reverend Wyn Evans.
Sue Enfield of Amroth, chairman of the SW Wales Committee of the BHS, said: "We view it as a personal challenge and we hope to leave a legacy for others with an interest in equestrian tourism. We also hope it will aid the future development of long distance riding routes in Mid and South West Wales."
The new Pembrokeshire Tower replaces the old Main Ring Tower and has been funded in part by contributions from Pembrokeshire.
