| Red Clubs lives up to expectations - 11 Sept 2007 |
|
Red Clubs finally lived up to the expectations of his trainer Barry Hills when he landed the Betfred Sprint Cup at Haydock over the weekend.
The four-year-old colt saw off hot favourite Sakhee's Secret, who lead for the first two furlongs, before Marchand D'Or, Mutawaajid, Asset, Wi Dud and Balthazaar's Gift all picked up the pace, but in the end, it was Red Clubs, ridden by Barry Hills' son, Michael, who took the win by three-quarters of a length.
Red Clubs had been hinting that he was capable of such a victory all season, finishing close-up in the Golden Jubilee, the July Cup and the Nunthorpe.
Barry Hills told the Times: "He is a very game, top-class horse who has run some good races this season and I think I had him as good as ever today.
"He has been so consistent over the last three seasons. He's always had a good turn of foot and he picked up today.
"He had a good draw here, whereas he has suffered in the past. I don't know where we will run |
