Competition was fierce at Unex Towerlands in Essex last weekend as it played host to the last qualifying competition for British riders to battle it out for the opportunity to compete in the International classes at the forthcoming Horse of the Year Show (HOYS), which will be staged at Birmingham’s NEC from 8th – 12th October 2008. Against stiff opposition, the two Unex Towerlands wildcard qualification places were awarded to Helen Tredwell from Finmere, near Buckingham and Andrew Davies from Warrington, Cheshire.
As well as ten of the British leading riders,[1] who are automatically eligible to compete at the world’s most famous horse show, an additional four places were available from qualifiers held at Rowallan Activity Centre (5th– 7th September) and Unex Towerlands (25th - 28th September). Helen and Andrew will be joining Paul Barker and Geoff Billington who have already won their wildcard places at The Rowallan Activity Centre.
The International classes commence on Thursday 9th October and finish with the prestigious Diamond Jubilee Leading Show Jumper of the Year Grand Prix, which takes place during Sunday’s Gala Night performance.
This year’s Diamond Jubilee means dazzling performances, stunning displays and tense competition resulting in an equestrian extravaganza not to be missed. No matter how old or how horsey, all visitors will be treated to an action-packed spectacular.
HOYS is selling out fast but there are limited seats available on certain performances including Wednesday, Thursday and Sunday Evening. To book, call the NEC Box Office on: 08719 45 45 00 or visit www.hoys.co.uk.
